Germline mosaicism
A mutation present only in germ cells (egg or sperm). Therefore, genetic analysis of DNA obtained from a peripheral blood sample would not demonstrate a mutation. However, an individual may still have a risk of passing along a significant mutation to her offspring as the genetic alteration is present in her germ cells (oocytes). Considered rare but has been reported to occur.
