Inactivated vaccines
Inactivated vaccines are composed of either whole or fractions of viruses or bacteria. Fractional vaccines are either protein-based or polysaccharide based. Protein-based vaccines include toxioids (inactivated bacterial toxin) and subunit or subviriion products. Polysaccharide-based vaccines are usually composed of pure cell wall polysaccharide from bacteria. A conjugated polysaccharide vaccine means that the polysaccharide is chemically linked to a protein, making the polysaccharide a more potent vaccine.
