IVH
Intraventricular hemorrhage. Associated with prematurity but can occur in term infants as well. Bleeding into the brain’s ventricular system is divided into grades. Grades 1 and 2 IVH are smaller bleeds and in many cases, there may be no long term problems as a result of the bleeding. Grade 1 is also referred to as germinal matrix hemorrhage (GMH). Grade 3 IVH involves pressure on the brain with ventricular enlargment, while Grade 4, also known as intraparenchymal hemorrhage, indicates brain tissue involvement.
