random effect
A random effects model may be used in a meta-analysis because of real differences in the treatment effect in each study as well as sampling variability (chance). These treatment effect differences may be due to differences in study populations (e.g. age), how a drug is administered (e.g. dose) interventions received (such as dose of drug) or other factors
