Uniparental Disomy
Also known as UPD. Chromosomes come in pairs, where usually one chromosome is inherited from the mother and the other from the father. In UPD, both chromosomes in the pair, or regions of both chromosomes, are inherited from only one parent. Abnormalities and genetic syndromes have been seen particularly when UPD affects certain chromosomes, such as 6, 7, 11, 14 and 15.
