X-inactivation
A process by which biologic females who typically have two X chromosomes normally inactivate one X chromosome per cell during embryonic development. If a disease-causing gene is on an X chromosome and the normal X chromosomes are randomly inactivated, the individual may have symptoms of the X-linked condition
